06.30.13 - 1H13 Album Recommendations
Below is a set of albums I’ve been listening to lately – although they vary stylistically, I recommend each for different reasons:
- Fennesz: 17.02.12 [2 x 12″ lp + cd + dvd box]
- Touch: 30 years and counting [5″ cd]
- Savvas Ysatis + Taylor Deupree:Â Origin [12″ lp]
- Seaworthy + Taylor Deupree: Wood, Winter, Hollow [5″ cd]
- Oval:Â Systemisch [2 x 12″ lp, repress]
- Mark McGuire: Tidings III [digital release]
- John Roberts: Fences [5″ cd]
- Aoki Takamasa: RV8 [12″ lp]
- Daft Punk: Random Access Memories [5″ cd]
- Wild Nothing: Empty Estate EP [5″ cd]
- Queens: End Times [5″ cd]
- William Basinski: Nocturnes [5″ cd]
- Lawrence English:Â Lonely Women’s Club [12″ lp]
- Mountains: Live at Bottletree [5″ cd]
Out of the above, I have to highlight the Queens album, which is a special release to me, of sorts. I saw Scott perform this material back in 2007 when he opened for Panda Bear at the Bowery Ballroom. It’s an amazing collection of songs – a very memorable concert relived by this formal studio release.
Blast from the past on heavy rotation:
- Kompakt: Pop Ambient 2001 [5″ cd]
- Keith Fullerton Whitman:Â Playthroughs [5″ cd]
- Pantha Du Prince: Black Noise [5″ cd]
